Murphy and Betz to Notre Dame
The systematic theology area here at Notre Dame has been conducting some new faculty searches this spring, and it’s just been announced that Francesca Murphy and John Betz have accepted offers to begin in the 2010-11 academic year. Murphy is best known for God Is Not a Story, which she published in 2007, though her main interest is in theological aesthetics. Betz has become known recently for his role in the analogia entis debate—especially his two-part essay in Modern Theology, “Beyond the Sublime: The Aesthetics of the Analogy of Being” (Part 1, Part 2).

Uh oh.
Good news for you all. I think the next few years are probably going to see some shuffling/new up-and-comings of senior faculty at prominent U.S. institutions… the beginnings of which have already started over the past year or so. Good to see that Notre Dame is adding to their systematics program.
hmm…I’ll have to check out Murphy. Not so much interested in the analogia entis debate (yawn). But in any event, these are major scores for ND.
Evan, what I’m hoping this means is that there’s a siphoning off of folks from other institutions, opening up slots for those of us going on the market, you know, this year.
the market?
ouch.
i get it.
Aberdeen will miss Francesca, and John’s recent, groundbreaking work on Hamann should not go without mention. Both will be no doubt make substantial contributions to theology at ND, first as persons, and second of all as theologians.
Applause for the theologians, please!
Aha, you did steal Murphy!
