Robert Gates Coming to Notre Dame

Notre Dame just announced the commencement speaker for this year: Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Although Gates has had a career in education (at Texas A&M) he is obviously known primarily from his work in the CIA and the Pentagon. Somehow I don’t think that inviting the man who is in charge of the extensive military complex in the U.S. and is integrally involved in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will raise much protest.
